About Us

We have been proclaiming the gospel of Jesus Christ in the Taylorsville community for more than seventy years. We are a vibrant and active small-town family of faith that seeks to be the body of Christ in the world, sharing through word and deed, the grace we have received and the good news of salvation through our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. Together, we are one family, guided by the Holy Spirit, welcoming all who desire to know, worship and serve Christ. Our mission statement defines us well: A family of grace, growing in faith, sharing God’s love.

What We Believe

We believe that God has been revealed to us as Father, Son and Holy Spirit.

This three-in-one God has created us and claimed us as God’s own through the waters of Baptism, has redeemed us and given us the promise of salvation through the death and resurrection of Jesus Christ, and through the Holy Spirit, unites us as the Body of Christ and accompanies us in our life together.

We accept the Scriptures of the Old and New Testaments as the inspired Word of God and the authoritative source and norm of our proclamation, faith and life.

We believe that Baptism marks the death of the old sinner and the birth of a new creation. Joined to Christ’s death and resurrection, we become a child of God and an inheritor of God’s eternal kingdom. It also marks the formal entrance into the church, which is the community of God’s saints in all times and places. The gift of Baptism is offered to all, with no regard for age or station in life.

We believe that in the bread and wine of Holy Communion, Christ is present, giving his body and blood. Through this holy meal, we receive the gifts of life, salvation, and the forgiveness of sins. Holy Communion is offered to all baptized Christians.

We trust that we are loved, blessed, gifted, and forgiven people who are saved by the grace of God.

Meet Our Pastor

Pastor Miriam Schmidle

I studied Religious Education and Social Work, first planning to become a deacon. But during an internship, I realized that God was calling me instead to pastoral ministry. Another turning point came during an internship in the United States: there I felt clearly that my call was not to the Bavarian state church, but to the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America. Back in Germany, I taught religion in schools—from fifth graders all the way to adults from many different backgrounds. I loved teaching, but the call to the ELCA never left me. In time, and together with my husband Kornelius, I was ready to take the next step. We moved to the United States in 2021, where I earned my Master of Divinity at the Lutheran School of Theology at Chicago. Since 2024 I have been serving as a Synod Authorized Minister in Indiana, growing in faith and ministry and since November at St. Matthews Luteran Church in Kings Mountain.
